House of Joy, Cal Shakes World Premiere, Evening 8/22 Orinda

Come enjoy a summer theater evening among the hills and under the beautiful skies of Orinda with Cal Shakes' World Premiere of Madhuri Shekar's "House of Joy," a darling of the 2018 Bay Area Playwrights Festival.

Set some time in the 17th century, House of Joy will immerse you in an action-adventure romance set in a harem at the beginning of the end of the Mughal Empire. Once upon a time and place, in something like 17th century Delhi, an imperial bodyguard risks her life to fight for what’s right, turning against everything she’s been raised to believe.

You are welcome to enjoy your own picnic starting as early as 5:30 at our own Yale table by the Grove. There will be pre-show talk with Cal Shakes' dramaturg, as well as an after-show talkback, which will include among others our own Nandita Shenoy (Morse '94).

The play, which starts at 7:30, is suitable for families. A great live event for a summer evening in the rolling hills of Orinda's Siesta Valley.

A code is available for Yale alumni and their friends to purchase tickets at a discount.  Please use
this special link to purchase either "preferred" or "regular" tickets and receive $10 off. Once you select your tickets, you will see the option to click the "2019 Yale Alumni Group."

Although there is free parking on site, Cal Shakes offers a free shuttle to and from the Orinda BART station beginning two hours before every performance and again immediately after the show. The shuttle runs a loop every 20 minutes.

See you there!
