TRUE SON Film SF Premiere (Tribeca Film Festival 2014 Official Selection)

A new documentary feature directed by Kevin Gordon (ES ’02).

Fresh off its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, TRUE SON will be having its West Coast Premiere at the SF Doc Fest in June. The documentary follows a 21-yr-old kid from the streets as he tries to save his hometown by running for city council.

The film will be opening Saturday June 7th at 7pm at the Roxie Theater in the Mission with reception with cast and crew to follow at the Armory Club. If you cannot make opening night, there will be encore screenings on Wednesday June 11th and Saturday June 14th.

Synopsis:

Stockton, California, is considered one of the worst cities in the United States, riddled with financial crisis and crime rates rivaling Afghanistan. Where everyone else saw hopelessness, 21-year-old Michael Tubbs saw possibility. In 2012, Tubbs ran for City Council, building his campaign from the ground up. TRUE SON tells the passionate and inspirational story as Tubbs sets out to beat a politician twice his age and bring his community back from bankruptcy.
