Second in our Master's Tea by the Bay series: "How to listen to contemporary classical music" with Tiffany Ng '05 and Olga Panteleeva

How to Listen to Contemporary Classical Music

May 16th, 5:45-7:45pm

Are you a technogeek? An activist? Do you like talking politics or solving puzzles? Or are you simply moved by beauty and harmony?  Contemporary classical music has it all and more.

Join musicologists Tiffany Ng and Olga Panteleeva in exploring the diversity of contemporary classical music and its relevance to our everyday concerns. They will try to debunk the popular view of modern music as a forbidding and academic pursuit, undertaken from an ivory tower, while explicating reasons for such a perception and presenting techniques and strategies for listening to contemporary classical music and the avant-garde.

Tiffany Ng (TD ‘05) and Olga Panteleeva are Ph.D. students at the Department of Music, UC Berkeley, writing dissertations on 20th-century music culture. They have taught many courses in music appreciation and music history at Cal.

Location: Union Square neighborhood, SF (ticket purchasers will be notified 5 days before the event regarding the exact location.)
