Philharmonia Baroque at SFJAZZ - Discounted tickets for Yale Alums

SESSIONS – an entirely new type of concert – makes its debut at SFJAZZ with works by C.P.E. Bach (son of Johann Sebastian) and Joseph Haydn.

GRAMMY-nominated Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra is premiering its new SESSIONS concert series with an exploration of works by C.P.E. Bach and Joseph Haydn hosted by KQED's Rachael Myrow, conductor Nic McGegan, and keyboardist (and master improviser) Robert Levin.

In this new, 90-minute concert format, you'll hear authentic performances of the works with the full orchestra and soloists combined with engaging demonstrations and a tour of the music and its historical context to make the concert-going experience more rich and exciting.

Following the performance, you're invited to stick around at SFJAZZ and meet the musicians and other guests in an intimate setting, featuring complimentary wines provided by Boisset Family Estates.

Philharmonia Baroque is the premier period-instrument ensemble in North America. That means it plays music of the baroque, classical, and romantic eras authentically, using instruments from or similar to those in use at the time the music was written, and performed using historically-informed technique.

Here’s a short video that shows you a bit about Philharmonia and how it makes its unique sound:

Here’s a good recording (with cheesy graphics) of one of the pieces you’ll be hearing at SESSIONS

And here are a couple good articles about the featured guest artist, Robert Levin:
