Private Bartending and Mixology Class

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Yale (and Dartmouth) alums at this exciting course.

Date: Sunday, May 5th
Time: 1:30pm to 4:30pm
Location: 124 Ellis Street, San Francisco
Cost:  $80 for Members, $100 for Non-Members

Make Cinco de Mayo a true fiesta with a crash course in mixology and bartending basics, hosted by the bartender-instructor professionals of SF Mixology. The Dartmouth Alumni Association of Silicon Valley has graciously shared this event with the YCSF community.

First, you'll review the history of the American bartender, and examine cocktail trends through the eras, especially Prohibition and its aftereffects. Then, you'll taste all this history in a glass by learning how to prepare both classic and modern cocktails. You'll learn general precepts of mixology, plus easy-to-apply formulas and ratios. You'll taste different genres of cocktails, and enjoy tasting experiences across different dimensions of the palate, such as sugar, acid, and structure. Next, you'll learn how to move, pour, shake, and strain with flair – just like a professional bartender. SF Mixology instructors will provide individual, hands-on training on proper drink-making techniques, complete with core bartending tools. Everyone will get ample time behind the bar.

As a special bonus, customized just for YCSF and DAASV on Cinco de Mayo, you'll recreate the thrill and intensity of being behind a real bar through a highly interactive hour-long cocktail competition. You'll form small groups where you'll be taught how to create, innovate, and present a competition-level cocktail. Each team will work at its own mini craft bar appointed with premium alcohol, including rare and exotic liquors, bitters, and revivers. SF Mixology professionals will walk teams through each round, and there will be prizes for winning teams.

You and your team will come away with unique new skills, reference materials and recipes, and, more than a favorite new drink, a whole new perspective on cocktails and mixology.

This private event will be held at Infusion Lounge near San Francisco's Union Square. Named by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the world's hottest nightclubs, this 6,500 square-foot space boasts an Asian-inspired interior with giant lacquer dragons, laughing Buddhas, LED-illuminated glass columns, and glowing lattice walls.

Attendance is capped at 35 people, so register early to assure your space! All confirmed participants must provide proof of legal drinking age upon entering the venue.

RSVP REQUIRED: To aid in the planning of this event, please purchase tickets by April 27th.
