The MIT Club of Northern California has invited YCSF members to participate in their 2012 Spotlight event.

   

SPOTLIGHT 2012

The MIT Club of Northern California (MITCNC) is pleased to announce that John Reed, Chair of the MIT Corporation (the Institute's governing body)  and former CEO of Citigroup and NYSE, will be the MITCNC 2012 Spotlight honoree and keynote speaker.  John Reed will be featured at a reception and dinner on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco.

The MITCNC Spotlight event is the premier event of the year for the MIT alumni community in Northern California which numbers over 11,000 alums.  It is the highlight of the year and draws hundreds of members of the MIT community for a night of great company, food and drink.
 
Former honorees/keynote speakers are alumni/professors who are at the top of their field:

·         Tom Perkins -  founder of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, one of the most venerable and successful venture capital firms in history

·         Prof. Nicolas Negroponte - founder and chairman of the “One Laptop per Child” non-profit association. He was also co-founder and director of the MIT Media Laboratory

·         Prof. Bob Langer - pioneering leader of work at the interface of biology and material science, and one of history's most prolific inventors and entrepreneurs 

·         Susan Hockfield  - current President of MIT and the first woman and the first biologist to hold that position

John Reed is one of the pre-eminent executives in the business world, having held the top spots at both Citigroup and the New York Stock Exchange.  He received joint SB and BA degrees from MIT and Washington & Jefferson College before serving for two years as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Reed earned his master's degree in management from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1965 and joined Citibank shortly thereafter. He became the bank's chairman and CEO in 1984. After the bank merged with the Travelers Co. in 1998, Reed served as chairman and co-CEO of the new company, Citigroup. He retired from Citigroup in 2000, and then served as chairman of the New York Stock Exchange from September 2003 until April 2005.
