Help organize Yale Day of Service 2019

Express your interest now to lead one of the Yale Day of Service sites. You can lead one of the already established sites, which is quick and easy, or you can plan your own venue from scratch. Projects should be on or near Saturday, May 11, 2019.

If you are interested in leading a service site, please contact Margie Baer, ‘85, Regional Director Northern California Yale Day of Service at mamabaer2@gmail.com.

You can choose how much time to invest. For most volunteers, leading a site is not complicated. All you have to do is email the registrants once before and after the event, be available for questions, then greet the volunteers at the site. Or, if you prefer, you can create your own project, however complicated, register it yourself, and orchestrate the whole shebang.

Launched in 2009, the global Yale Day of Service is one of a number of service opportunities for Yale alumni to lead by sharing their time and talents to make a difference.

Many alumni give back by working in the non-profit sector, sitting on boards of foundations and organizations, serving at the highest levels of government, becoming elected officials, volunteering for Yale, and sharing time, experience and energy with volunteer community projects. And the Yale Day of Service is a chance for alumni around the world to come together on one day to celebrate this tradition of service. On the Yale Day of Service, alumni and their families and friends work side by side to make communities better because Yale alumni live there. The Yale Day of Service is a wonderful way for members of the Yale community to meet and reconnect with alumni who share this commitment to giving back. And for many alumni, the program provides the opportunity to share this value with their children (and grandchildren) through example – and fun! – as they work together on projects where they live.

Projects are led by alumni, and information on the sites is submitted in January through March. Alumni and their families and friends can register for Yale Day of Service sites through our online database beginning in April for projects that take place on and around the Yale Day of Service. While the Yale Day of Service typically takes place on the second Saturday in May, there are a number of Yale Day of Service activities that occur on other dates in the spring.
